UK economy grew 0.5% in fourth quarter

The UK economy grew by a better than expected 0.5% in the fourth quarter of 2017, official figures show.

That was an improvement on 0.4% rate of growth seen in the previous quarter and meant that for the year as a whole, gross domestic product rose by 1.8%, only marginally below the 1.9% pace seen in 2016.
